Organic certification of mirco-algae

Micro-algae enjoy an increased interest, for instance as an alternative source of protein. Manufacturers of this type of algae experience that there is a high demand for organicly grown micro-algae. For quite a long time, it was not clear what standards are applicable to the organic production of micro-algae. Recently, new EU legislation was published, which clarifies those conditions. However, practical issues remain unresolved. Together with the Dutch micro-algae manufacturer Nutress, Karin pinpointed those practical issues and explored solutions. The result was published today in the food industry magazine VMT.
