Specialist counsel for innovation

About Axon Lawyers

Axon Lawyers is a dedicated life sciences law firm based in Amsterdam with an international focus embedded in the Alliance of European Life Sciences Law Firms as a founding member.

A legacy built on precision and scientific fluency

We were founded in 2011 with a singular focus: to bridge the gap between complex regulation and the commercial realities of the life sciences industry. Regulation rarely keeps pace with innovation. We help clients work in that gap: from first-in-human trials, CE marking and market access to licensing, collaboration and exit. We advise our clients on the full range of strategic issues arising during the life cycle of a product, from its development to its commercialisation.

Our lawyers read the science as well as the statute, and give clear, strategic advice across the full span of the life sciences sector: from pharmaceuticals and medical devices to biotech, digital health, food and feed, cosmetics, and the biobased economy. Within the life sciences sector, Axon is a full-service law firm. Our legal expertise covers the full range of regulatory, commercial and corporate law.

Our clients range from university spin-outs and early-stage start-ups to fast-growing scale-ups and established global industry players. We also advise investors, subsidy funds, research consortia, hospitals, knowledge institutions and NGOs.

So, whatever your stage or structure, we understand the strategic, regulatory and commercial challenges you face - and we know how to address them.

  • Life sciences is all we do
  • Dutch and EU regulatory depth, used on cross-border mandates
  • Advice you can act on, not a lengthy memo of non-actionable discussion

Our People

Lawyers who speak science

Our team brings together lawyers with backgrounds in law, science and industry. We foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, rigorous analysis and straightforward communication. Several of us hold degrees in the sciences or have worked in industry before practising law. That means you spend less time explaining your technology and more time deciding what to do about it.

Our team represents clients before the national and European courts as well as before the competent authorities, including the European Commission, the European medicines authorities (EMA), Notified Bodies and national (self) regulatory bodies.

Cell and gene therapies, synthetic biology, genomics, borderline products and AI-driven technologies are where we spend much of our time - areas that tend to raise the hardest regulatory questions.

We regularly support acquirers and investors with regulatory due diligence across the sector, drawing on our sector knowledge to spot and evaluate legal and regulatory risk. Throughout, we keep an eye on what is commercially workable, so the issues we flag come with a practical way through them.
